We want our in-depth analysis to become the staple of your NRL content diet while leaving the crisis, rumours and speculation to the rest.

There is more to the game than referees, the bunker and controversial topics we all forget about by the end of the season.

What happens in the NRL that we don’t forget?

The perfect set the Sydney Roosters played out in Week 1 of the 2019 NRL Finals.

The Melbourne Storm played a blinder in the 2020 NRL Grand Final.

Ryan Papenhuyzen produced the Play of the Round but it’s the little things, like Nelson Asofa-Solomona’s set in defence laying the table for a Storm try shortly after, that we’re diving into at Rugby League Writers.

Real, on-field aspects of rugby league are our focus.

Our aim at Rugby League Writers

The Pub Test is a classic rugby league reference. Heck, the NRL have changed rules based on what they think does and doesn’t pass The Pub Test.

We want YOU to be the most informed person at that pub.

By digging into the best players, teams, shapes and schemes, we observe the game through an analytical lense and piece it all together through weekly previews, reviews, newsletters and features.

How we’re doing it

“Paywall” is an offensive term within rugby league fandom. Most fans would rather not read what’s behind the wall than pay the $30 a month to, most likely, be angered by whatever it is.

You don’t get what you pay for in rugby league writing – we would like to change that.

We’ve added a subscription option to take Rugby League Writers to the next level.

It’s simple: more subscribers = more time = better content.

There will always be free NRL content on-site. Our socials will offer a regular glimpse behind the paywall too. But adding a subscription model allows us to invest in other areas to improve the site while also being able to dedicate more time to covering the greatest game of all.

The journey so far

Rugby League Writers has come in a handful of different forms already as we try to nail down the recipe for success.

We kicked things off at Substack where we covered the 2020 NRL season. Our intention was to build a brand people recognized and trusted. From there, we built our own site and added the Premium Memberships. We didn’t know what to expect while transitioning into a subscription service but the support so far has been incredible.

“We ticked up over 400 total subscribers just before the NRL Grand Final and are approaching 100 at the Premium level. The number of Premium subscribers, in particular, is more than we anticipated when kicking this off in March. We didn’t have too much of an idea on how many views we’d generate across the season but are very pleased with the 50,000+ visitors we did get to the site.” Thank you from RLW

We’re now into the 2022 NRL season and looking to take Rugby League Writers to another level. As usual, we still provide plenty of free content; a Free Membership helps us spread the word. So too does sharing and commenting on social media.

We have big ideas for how we want to grow the site and you can help us get there by signing up for a Premium Membership for only $5 a month.
