Why do wingers jam?
Jase dipped his toe into the water a few weeks ago when he highlighted a few things happening further infield that were causing wingers to leave their opposite number unmarked.
Today I’m diving in with him to breakdown a few recent and relevant examples from NRL Round 8:
The old saying that wingers only score because they’re marked by other wingers is always good value, but it’s often a little more complicated than that in the NRL.
Defending wingers are always on the lookout for attacking cues or mistakes in their own line to inform them whether to hold the paint or come flying in.
Often left looking the culprit in the highlight reel, in reality the defending winger is usually the victim of a breakdown that occurred much further in-field or even one tackle prior.
