Wayde Egan’s growing influence

I got a few laughs on the Neds NRL Unpopular Opinions Podcast a few weeks ago for suggesting that Wayde Egan might be the most influential dummy-half in the NRL right now.

The work of Api Koroisau and Harry Grant fairly often (and often fairly) dominates the headlines but it’s time we take notice of what Egan is doing in this Warriors attack.

Egan’s ruck recognition is superb; consistently picking the right moments to run, pass off the ground or reach into his bag of tricks and toy with the markers and ruck defenders.

He’s usually the catalyst for the variety of silky set pieces we’ve seen already from the Warriors in season 2024, as was evident in their NRL Round 5 win over the South Sydney Rabbitohs.
